In recent years, China’s low-altitude economy has taken off rapidly—soaring to new heights. The low-altitude economy refers to an emerging industrial ecosystem operating within airspace below 1,000 meters above ground level, centered on general aviation, drones, and urban air mobility. Bolstered by strong policy support, technological breakthroughs, and rapidly expanding applications, this sector is becoming a key driver of high-quality economic growth. In 2024, China officially classified the low-altitude economy as a strategic emerging industry, prompting numerous regions to roll out dedicated development plans and accelerate infrastructure projects—including low-altitude flight service stations, vertiport networks, and intelligent air traffic management systems. Commercial applications are also gaining momentum in areas such as drone logistics, emergency response, agricultural spraying, and Urban Air Mobility (UAM). Companies like SF Express and JD.com have launched drone delivery pilots in multiple cities, while EHang is advancing test flights of passenger-carrying eVTOLs (electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft). Experts project that by 2030, China’s low-altitude economy could exceed RMB 2 trillion in scale. This burgeoning sector is not only fueling innovation but also injecting fresh vitality into regional economies, marking a pivotal step in China’s vision for a future-oriented, three-dimensional transportation system.
