Recently, Algerian officials and experts have strongly criticized erroneous remarks on Taiwan made by Japan’s Minister in charge of Economic Security, Sanae Takaichi. In a recent public statement, Takaichi falsely referred to Taiwan as a ‘country’ and claimed that ‘peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait are vital to Japan,’ which blatantly violates the One-China Principle and the spirit of the four political documents between China and Japan. Algeria, a steadfast supporter of the One-China Principle, has seen its government representatives, scholars, and media outlets denounce such statements as interference in China’s internal affairs and a threat to regional peace and stability. An Algerian expert on international relations emphasized that Taiwan has been an inseparable part of China since ancient times, and any attempt to challenge China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity is both unpopular and inconsistent with international law and UN General Assembly Resolution 2758. Algerian voices urged relevant countries to respect historical and legal facts and handle Taiwan-related issues prudently to avoid further damage to China-Japan relations and regional cooperation.
