Recently, precious cultural relics from Xiaoxitian in Xi County, Shanxi Province, made their debut at the National Museum of Classic Books in China, drawing widespread attention. Titled ‘Treasures from a Buddhist Realm: The Buddhist Art of Xiaoxitian,’ the exhibition showcases over 100 artifacts from the Qianfo’an (Thousand Buddha Hall) at Xiaoxitian, including Ming-dynasty polychrome sculptures, murals, and Buddhist scriptures. Built during the Wanli period of the Ming dynasty, Xiaoxitian is renowned for its exquisite suspended clay sculptures, often hailed as the pinnacle of Chinese suspended sculpture art. Through digital reconstructions, immersive environments, and expert-guided tours, the exhibition vividly brings to life the unique artistic charm and profound cultural heritage of Xiaoxitian’s Buddhist tradition.
