This expanded coverage means residents can use the card seamlessly for registration, consultations, medication purchases, and medical insurance reimbursements at the vast majority of hospitals, community health centers, and designated pharmacies across the city—significantly improving healthcare accessibility and administrative efficiency. The third-generation card also employs advanced chip technology, offering enhanced security against data breaches and fraudulent use. According to Beijing’s Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, future efforts will focus on expanding the card’s application across more public service sectors, aiming to create a smart city ecosystem where ‘one card serves multiple purposes.’ Residents who have not yet upgraded can apply for or replace their cards free of charge at the nearest social security service center with valid identification.
