Recently, China’s National Healthcare Security Administration (NHSA) has officially launched a pilot program for the ‘Personal Medical Insurance Cloud’ initiative, aiming to enhance the convenience, security, and intelligence of medical insurance services through digital means. Leveraging the nationwide unified medical insurance information platform, the pilot will establish personalized digital accounts for insured individuals, enabling one-stop access to services such as insurance inquiry, expense settlement, inter-regional medical treatment registration, and use of electronic credentials.The ‘Personal Medical Insurance Cloud’ not only helps break down data silos but also facilitates secure, authorized sharing of medical insurance data. It further offers value-added services like personalized health management suggestions and medication reminders. Additionally, the system strengthens oversight of medical insurance funds by using big data analytics to detect abnormal medical behaviors and prevent fraud and misuse.The initial pilot covers 10 cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Chengdu, with nationwide expansion planned based on pilot outcomes. The NHSA stated that this move is a key step in deepening medical insurance reform and advancing the integration of ‘Internet + Medical Insurance,’ significantly improving public satisfaction and accessibility in healthcare coverage.
