Recently, China successfully commissioned the nation’s largest cross-section heavy slab continuous caster, marking a significant breakthrough in high-end steelmaking equipment technology. Developed and designed independently by CISDI Engineering Co., Ltd., the caster features a maximum slab cross-section of 420mm × 2600mm, making it the largest heavy slab continuous caster currently operating in China. It is capable of meeting the urgent demand for ultra-thick steel plates in high-end sectors such as nuclear power, offshore engineering, and heavy machinery. The equipment incorporates multiple innovative technologies—including dynamic soft reduction, electromagnetic stirring, and intelligent cooling control—significantly improving internal slab quality and dimensional accuracy while reducing energy consumption and material loss in subsequent rolling processes. This commissioning not only fills a domestic technological gap in ultra-large cross-section continuous casting but also strengthens China’s self-reliance in supplying high-end heavy steel plates, playing a vital role in advancing the steel industry’s green, low-carbon transformation and ensuring supply chain security.
