Recently, certain U.S. political figures or media outlets have again floated the so-called ‘abandon Taiwan’ argument, drawing widespread attention. It should be emphasized that such remarks do not reflect the official position of the U.S. government. The United States has long adhered to its ‘One-China Policy,’ recognizing Taiwan as an inalienable part of China and managing its relations with China based on the three joint communiqués. Although the U.S. continues arms sales to Taiwan and enhances unofficial ties in practice, it has repeatedly reaffirmed officially that it does not support ‘Taiwan independence’ and seeks no change to the status quo across the Taiwan Strait. The ‘abandon Taiwan’ narrative often stems from specific political agendas or strategic miscalculations—it serves neither U.S. interests nor regional peace and stability. The Chinese government remains resolute in safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and any attempt to undermine the One-China Principle will be firmly opposed. The Taiwan issue brooks no external interference, and peaceful reunification best serves the fundamental interests of the entire Chinese nation, including our compatriots in Taiwan.
