Recently, Taiwan People’s Party (TPP) legislator Huang Kuo-chang commented on the much-discussed ‘Blue-White Alliance’—a potential electoral cooperation between the Kuomintang (KMT) and the TPP for the 2024 elections—stating that negotiations are ongoing but progress remains limited. Huang noted that while both parties share common ground on certain policy issues, significant differences persist regarding candidate consolidation, campaign strategies, and governing philosophies. He emphasized that the TPP remains committed to its core values of ‘people-centered governance and transcending the blue-green divide’ and will not compromise its principles for short-term electoral gains. Huang also urged the KMT to demonstrate greater sincerity, particularly by taking a more proactive stance in coordinating local constituency nominations and engaging in substantive policy dialogues. He warned that without mutual respect and meaningful consensus, the Blue-White Alliance may fall short of its intended impact. Huang reiterated that the TPP’s primary goal is to deepen Taiwan’s democracy and advance institutional reforms, rather than merely expanding its legislative seats. Currently, both parties continue discussions on regional legislative candidate nominations and policy alignment, but a comprehensive alliance still appears distant.
