Recently, Taiwan’s Coast Guard Administration claimed that its vessels were ‘harassed’ by mainland authorities in the Taiwan Strait. In response, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council (TAO) firmly refuted these allegations. A TAO spokesperson stated that such claims of ‘harassment’ are utterly false and deliberately misleading. Taiwan is an inseparable part of China, and the lawful patrols and enforcement activities conducted by mainland coast guard and related agencies in the Taiwan Strait are fully legitimate, aimed at safeguarding national sovereignty, maritime rights, and maritime order. On the contrary, certain forces in Taiwan have long relied on external support to pursue ‘Taiwan independence,’ continuously provoking cross-strait tensions—the real source of instability in the region. The TAO emphasized that any attempt to challenge the one-China principle or split the country is doomed to fail. While adhering to the fundamental policy of ‘peaceful reunification and one country, two systems,’ the mainland will never allow Taiwan to secede from China. It urged relevant parties in Taiwan to recognize the prevailing historical trend, abandon illusions of ‘Taiwan independence,’ and jointly uphold the peaceful development of cross-strait relations.
