The National Health Commission of China recently announced that influenza activity in the country has been declining for four consecutive weeks. According to data from the national influenza surveillance network, the proportion of patients presenting with influenza-like illness (ILI) in outpatient and emergency departments has steadily decreased since mid-January 2024, accompanied by a corresponding drop in virus positivity rates—indicating that the peak of this flu season has passed.Experts attribute the decline to effective winter prevention measures, heightened public health awareness, and expanded influenza vaccination coverage. Although the current situation is stabilizing, spring remains a high-risk period for respiratory illnesses, and localized outbreaks may still occur in certain regions. Therefore, the National Health Commission advises the public to maintain good hygiene practices—such as frequent handwashing, wearing masks, and keeping social distance—and encourages high-risk groups who have not yet been vaccinated (including the elderly, children, and individuals with chronic conditions) to get their flu shots promptly.Meanwhile, healthcare institutions at all levels will continue enhanced monitoring of ILI cases and analysis of viral mutations to ensure rapid response should any anomalies arise. Overall, the current flu situation remains under control, and while there is no need for public alarm, vigilance should not be relaxed.
