Recently, in response to the G7’s statement about reducing imports of rare earths from China, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a reply. A spokesperson emphasized that rare earth resources are a crucial component of the global industrial and supply chains, and China has always adhered to an open and cooperative stance, committed to providing stable, reliable, and sustainable rare earth supplies to countries worldwide. China opposes any attempts to over-securitize or politicize economic and trade cooperation, stressing that market principles and international rules should serve as the foundation for resource allocation. As the world’s largest producer and exporter of rare earths, China possesses a complete industrial chain and technological advantages. Efforts by certain G7 members to build exclusive supply chains to reduce reliance on China are not only costly but also difficult to achieve in the short term. The Ministry pointed out that decoupling or disrupting supply chains serves no one’s interest and would only destabilize global industrial linkages and increase costs for green transitions and high-tech industries. China urges relevant countries to engage in constructive cooperation to jointly safeguard the stability and security of global supply chains.Meanwhile, China is accelerating high-quality development in its rare earth industry, promoting environmentally friendly mining practices and recycling, and enhancing strategic resource management—measures that reflect both domestic sustainability goals and global responsibility.
