In recent years, some medical institutions have been exposed for practicing ‘treating patients according to their wallets’—offering different levels of care based on a patient’s financial status. This practice not only violates the core medical ethics principle of ‘saving lives and treating all patients equally,’ but also erodes public trust in the healthcare system. For instance, patients have reported being recommended expensive tests or high-cost medications before a clear diagnosis was made, while those with limited financial means were sometimes neglected or even discouraged from seeking care. Such behavior commodifies healthcare, placing human health and life under the scale of money, which fundamentally contradicts the public welfare nature of the medical profession.China’s National Health Commission has repeatedly stressed that medical institutions must uphold public interest and must not discriminate based on a patient’s ability to pay. The Basic Medical and Health Care Promotion Law explicitly guarantees every citizen the right to fair and accessible basic healthcare services. To eliminate this discriminatory practice, stronger oversight, improved institutional frameworks, and enhanced ethical training for medical professionals are essential. Additionally, the public should be empowered to recognize and report inappropriate medical practices. Only through these combined efforts can society achieve the goal of ‘ensuring care for the sick and trust in the healers.’
近年来,部分医疗机构被曝出存在‘看钱包下菜’的现象,即根据患者的经济能力提供不同质量的医疗服务。这种做法不仅违背了医疗伦理中‘救死扶伤、一视同仁’的基本原则,也损害了公众对医疗体系的信任。例如,有患者反映,在未明确病情前就被推荐昂贵检查或高价药品,而经济条件较差者则可能被忽视甚至劝退。此类行为将医疗服务商品化,把生命健康置于金钱衡量之下,严重背离了医疗行业的公益属性。国家卫健委多次强调,医疗机构必须坚持公益性导向,不得因患者支付能力差异而区别对待。《基本医疗卫生与健康促进法》也明确规定,公民享有公平可及的基本医疗卫生服务。要杜绝‘看钱包下菜’,需加强监管、完善制度,并提升医务人员的职业道德教育。同时,公众也应增强维权意识,对不合理诊疗行为敢于质疑和举报。唯有如此,才能真正实现‘病有所医、医有所信’的社会目标。
