Recently, Gaozhou City in Maoming, Guangdong Province, held a series of cultural events to commemorate the birthday of Lady Xian. Lady Xian (522–602 AD) was an outstanding female stateswoman and military leader during the Southern and Northern Dynasties through the Sui Dynasty, renowned as a symbol of ethnic unity and revered as the ‘Holy Mother of Lingnan.’ As her hometown, Gaozhou organizes annual celebrations around her birthday to honor her legacy of patriotism, dedication to the people, and efforts to uphold national unity and ethnic harmony.This year’s events, themed ‘Inheriting the Spirit of Lady Xian, Building a Harmonious and Beautiful Gaozhou,’ attracted tens of thousands of participants. The solemn memorial ceremony at the Xian Tai Temple featured flower offerings and recitations of eulogies by representatives from various sectors, expressing deep respect for this historical figure. Additionally, the city leveraged short videos and live streaming to broaden outreach, helping younger generations better understand Lady Xian’s historical contributions and cultural significance. The festivities not only strengthened local cultural identity but also promoted the integration of culture and tourism, establishing Gaozhou’s vibrant cultural brand.
