In June 2024, China successfully launched the ‘Low Earth Orbit (LEO) Satellite Internet Constellation Group 18’ into its designated orbit using a Long March-2D carrier rocket from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center. This mission marks a critical step in China’s construction of a LEO satellite internet constellation, laying a solid foundation for a global, high-speed, low-latency space-ground integrated communication network.These satellites are part of China’s national ‘Guo Wang’ (StarNet) project, which aims to deploy thousands of LEO satellites to provide broadband internet access—particularly to remote regions, maritime areas, and aviation routes where traditional terrestrial networks are unavailable. Compared to geostationary satellites, LEO satellites offer lower signal latency, reduced attenuation, and greater deployment flexibility, making them a key component of future 6G and space-air-ground integrated information networks.This launch carried 18 satellites, all developed by domestic commercial aerospace companies, reflecting China’s new collaborative model that combines state-led programs with private-sector innovation. Over the next few years, China plans a series of intensive launches to gradually build an autonomous, secure, and efficient global satellite internet system—enhancing national digital infrastructure and offering a Chinese solution to global digital development.
2024年6月,我国在酒泉卫星发射中心使用长征二号丁运载火箭,成功将‘卫星互联网低轨18组’卫星送入预定轨道。此次发射标志着我国低轨卫星互联网星座建设迈出关键一步,为构建覆盖全球、高速低延时的天地一体化通信网络奠定坚实基础。该组卫星属于国家主导的‘星网工程’的一部分,旨在通过部署数千颗低地球轨道(LEO)卫星,提供宽带互联网接入服务,尤其服务于偏远地区、海洋、航空等传统地面网络难以覆盖的区域。与高轨卫星相比,低轨卫星具有传输延迟低、信号衰减小、部署灵活等优势,是未来6G及空天信息网络的重要组成部分。此次任务共搭载18颗卫星,均由国内商业航天企业研制,体现了我国‘国家队+民营企业’协同发展的航天新模式。未来几年,我国计划持续开展密集发射,逐步建成自主可控、安全高效的全球卫星互联网系统,不仅提升国家信息基础设施能力,也为全球数字经济发展贡献中国方案。
