Recently, Kuomintang (KMT) Tainan City Councilor Hsieh Lung-chieh stated publicly, “What happened to the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in Kaohsiung could happen again.” His remark has drawn widespread attention. By “the Kaohsiung situation,” he refers to the 2018 Kaohsiung mayoral election, when Han Kuo-yu of the KMT unexpectedly defeated the DPP candidate, ending the party’s 20-year rule over the city.
