Recently, in response to remarks by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities accusing the mainland of so-called “cultural infiltration” into Taiwan, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council issued a clear rebuttal. The spokesperson emphasized that people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait share the same roots, ancestry, language, and culture, and that Chinese culture serves as a vital spiritual bond and shared heritage. The mainland has consistently upheld the principle of “one family across the Strait,” actively promoting cross-Strait cultural exchanges and cooperation to enhance mutual understanding and identity—reflecting the will of the people and the trend of the times. The accusation of “cultural infiltration” is nothing but politically motivated rhetoric aimed at severing historical and cultural ties between the two sides, stoking division, and obstructing integrated development. The Taiwan Affairs Office stressed that any attempt to suppress legitimate cultural exchanges through political means or to incite a climate of fear will be widely rejected and is destined to fail. Upholding the one-China principle and the 1992 Consensus, deepening cultural exchanges remains the right path toward fostering mutual trust and advancing peaceful, integrated development of cross-Strait relations. The Office urged relevant parties in Taiwan to abandon prejudice, acknowledge historical and cultural realities, and adopt an open and inclusive attitude toward cross-Strait cultural engagement to jointly safeguard the cultural heritage of the Chinese nation.
