In January 2025, the Fifth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) of the Communist Party of China was held in Beijing, adopting the ‘Communiqué of the Fifth Plenary Session of the 20th CCDI.’ The communiqué stressed the need to thoroughly study and implement the spirit of the 20th Party Congress and the Third and Fourth Plenary Sessions of the 20th Central Committee, resolutely advance full and rigorous governance over the Party, and continue deepening the anti-corruption campaign. It noted that while the anti-corruption struggle has achieved an overwhelming victory and been comprehensively consolidated, the situation remains severe and complex, requiring sustained strategic resolve and an unwavering commitment to strict discipline. The communiqué called on disciplinary inspection and supervision agencies at all levels to strengthen political oversight, enhance supervision over top officials and leadership teams, and improve the Party and state supervision system. It also emphasized resolutely addressing formalism and bureaucratism and tackling corruption and misconduct affecting ordinary people. Furthermore, the session underscored the importance of strengthening the self-discipline and capacity-building of the disciplinary inspection workforce to forge a loyal, clean, and responsible team capable of providing robust support for advancing Chinese modernization and realizing national rejuvenation.
