经常滴眼药水缓解眼干?医生提醒

Many people experience dry eyes after prolonged screen use and habitually turn to eye drops for relief. However, doctors warn that frequent or inappropriate use of eye drops may do more harm than good and could even damage eye health.First, not all eye drops are suitable for long-term use. Many over-the-counter products contain preservatives like benzalkonium chloride, which can damage the corneal epithelium with prolonged use and worsen dry eye symptoms. Second, some eye drops constrict blood vessels to quickly reduce redness, but this masks underlying eye issues and delays proper treatment. Moreover, misuse of antibiotic or steroid-containing eye drops may lead to drug resistance, elevated intraocular pressure, or even glaucoma.Doctors recommend visiting an ophthalmologist if you experience persistent dryness, a gritty sensation, or blurred vision to identify the root cause before using any medication. For daily eye care, follow the ’20-20-20 rule’ (every 20 minutes of screen time, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds), maintain indoor humidity, blink more often, and consider dietary intake of Omega-3 fatty acids. Preservative-free artificial tears may be used under medical guidance when necessary.In short, eye drops are not a cure-all—scientific eye care is essential.
