Recently, media reports indicated that the U.S. government may approve NVIDIA’s sale of its high-performance AI chip, the H200, to China. In response, a spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that China consistently opposes the U.S. practice of overgeneralizing national security concerns and abusing export controls to unjustly suppress Chinese companies. The spokesperson emphasized that stable global industrial and supply chains serve the interests of all parties, and that artificially imposed technological barriers not only harm the legitimate rights of Chinese enterprises but also negatively impact global technological cooperation and economic development. China urges the U.S. to stop politicizing trade and technology issues and to contribute constructively to the stability of global supply chains and the recovery of the world economy.Analysts note that the H200 is NVIDIA’s latest-generation high-performance AI accelerator, significantly outperforming the previously restricted A100 and H100 chips. Although the U.S. may permit exports in a downgraded configuration, this move reflects a strategic recalibration in U.S. technology controls toward China—aiming to curb China’s AI advancement while accommodating American corporate commercial interests. China’s response reaffirms its firm opposition to technological blockades and underscores its commitment to an open and cooperative international tech order.
