In recent years, China’s commercial rocket industry is rapidly entering the ‘deep water zone.’ This term refers not only to technically demanding areas such as reusable rockets, liquid-propellant engines, and orbital-class launches, but also signifies a shift from an early-stage model driven by policy support and venture capital toward a mature phase centered on market competitiveness and sustainable operations. Private aerospace companies like LandSpace, iSpace, and Galactic Energy have conducted multiple launch missions and achieved breakthroughs in key technologies including liquid oxygen–methane engines and vertical landing systems. Meanwhile, national policies such as the ‘Medium- and Long-Term Development Plan for National Civil Space Infrastructure’ provide institutional support and market opportunities for commercial space activities. Nevertheless, significant challenges remain: the sector’s high investment requirements, long development cycles, and inherent risks place immense pressure on companies’ financial resilience, technical expertise, and supply chain management. Additionally, intensifying global competition and an evolving regulatory framework for launch licensing continue to pose constraints. To secure a foothold in the global commercial space arena, Chinese commercial rocket firms must deepen their focus on technological innovation, cost efficiency, and business model exploration.
