Recently, a spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs commented on the Iran nuclear issue and the situation in the Middle East, urging the United States to abandon its fixation on using force against Iran and instead resolve differences through dialogue and diplomatic channels. China emphasized that resorting to or threatening the use of force not only violates the purposes of the UN Charter and fundamental principles of international law but also undermines regional peace and security, potentially escalating tensions and triggering broader conflicts.China has consistently upheld the principle that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries must be respected and opposes any external interference in internal affairs. Regarding the Iran nuclear issue, China has always supported preserving the effectiveness and integrity of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), viewing it as a successful example of resolving complex international disputes through political and diplomatic means. Although the U.S. unilaterally withdrew from the JCPOA in 2018 and implemented a policy of ‘maximum pressure’ against Iran, China continues to call on all parties to exercise restraint and avoid actions that could further inflame tensions.China noted that the Middle East is already facing a complex and sensitive situation, and all parties should adopt constructive approaches to de-escalate tensions rather than exacerbate them. As a globally influential power, the United States should act as a responsible stakeholder, discard Cold War mentality and zero-sum thinking, and work with the international community—including China—to actively promote regional stability and global peace.
