Recently, the United States and Taiwan announced a so-called ‘trade agreement.’ In response, a spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated China’s firm opposition. The spokesperson emphasized that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China, and the U.S. move seriously violates the one-China principle and the provisions of the three China-U.S. joint communiqués, undermining China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. China urges the U.S. to abide by the one-China principle, handle Taiwan-related issues prudently and appropriately, cease all forms of official exchanges and military ties with Taiwan, and refrain from sending any wrong signals to ‘Taiwan independence’ separatist forces. Any attempt to use Taiwan as a pawn to contain China’s development is doomed to fail. China will take all necessary measures to resolutely safeguard its core national interests. Meanwhile, China calls on relevant parties to fully recognize the high sensitivity of the Taiwan issue, respect China’s internal affairs, and avoid further damaging China-U.S. relations and peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.
