In 2023, Yiwu—the world-renowned hub for small commodities in China—surpassed the RMB 800 billion mark in foreign trade volume for the first time, setting a new record. This milestone not only highlights Yiwu’s resilience as a global trading center but also reflects the sustained vitality of China’s foreign trade amid a complex international landscape. According to customs data, Yiwu’s total import and export value reached RMB 815.67 billion, up 14.6% year-on-year. Exports amounted to RMB 739.23 billion, while imports totaled RMB 76.44 billion. The city exports over 2.1 million types of goods—including daily necessities, textiles, toys, and electronic components—to more than 230 countries and regions worldwide. In recent years, Yiwu has actively promoted an integrated model combining cross-border e-commerce with market procurement trade, accelerating the digital transformation of traditional commerce. It has also enhanced international supply chain efficiency through logistics corridors like the China-Europe Railway Express (Yiwu–Xinjiang–Europe route). Furthermore, policy benefits from the Yiwu Comprehensive Bonded Zone and the China (Zhejiang) Pilot Free Trade Zone have continuously improved the business environment, attracting a surge of foreign trade enterprises. This historic achievement solidifies Yiwu’s central role in the global small-commodity supply chain and offers a replicable model for high-quality development of China’s foreign trade.
