市监总局发布首个保健食品新功能

Recently, China’s State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) officially released the first new functional claim for health foods, marking a significant step toward more scientific and standardized management of health food claims in the country. The newly approved function is “helps maintain normal platelet aggregation,” which was established based on extensive scientific research and expert review, and is intended for specific populations under the guidance of healthcare professionals or nutritionists.For years, health food functional claims in China have been limited to 27 traditional categories, such as immune support, sleep improvement, and fatigue relief. However, with rising public health awareness and advances in scientific research, these existing claims have become insufficient to meet evolving market demands. In response, SAMR has reformed its application and evaluation system for new functions, encouraging companies to conduct evidence-based research and undergo transparent, rigorous assessments.This new functional claim not only broadens the scope of health food applications but also provides clear innovation pathways for the industry. SAMR emphasized that all products claiming this new function must undergo strict registration or filing procedures, and their labeling must be truthful, scientifically sound, and non-misleading. This move aims to enhance overall product quality, protect consumer rights, and promote high-quality development of the health food sector.
