Recently, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has repeatedly expressed serious concern over Japan’s accelerated push toward remilitarization. Chinese officials noted that the Japanese government has significantly increased its defense budget in recent years, strengthened the U.S.-Japan military alliance, pursued revisions to constitutional provisions related to its pacifist stance, and actively developed long-range strike capabilities—moves that clearly deviate from Japan’s post-war “exclusively defense-oriented policy.” China emphasized that as a former aggressor in World War II, Japan’s military developments remain a sensitive issue for its Asian neighbors. Beijing urged Tokyo to face history squarely, adhere to a path of peaceful development, and take concrete actions to rebuild trust with neighboring countries and the international community. China also called on relevant parties to abandon Cold War-era mindsets and avoid fueling division or tension in the Asia-Pacific region, so as to jointly safeguard regional peace and stability. China consistently advocates resolving differences through dialogue and cooperation and opposes any unilateral military actions that could undermine the regional security architecture.
