湖北恩施一高校请学生吃刨猪宴

The Pao Zhu Banquet is a long-standing custom among ethnic groups such as the Tujia and Miao, typically held during the Lunar New Year or major festivals. After slaughtering a pig, families invite relatives, friends, and neighbors to share freshly cooked pork dishes—a celebration symbolizing reunion, harvest, and gratitude.For this event, the university invited local villagers to demonstrate the traditional process of pig slaughter and cooking, preparing dozens of authentic dishes such as blood tofu, cured pork, and twice-cooked pork. Students gathered around large tables, enjoying the meal while listening to faculty explain the historical and cultural significance of the banquet. Many students said it was their first time experiencing such an authentic folk tradition, offering them a taste of festive warmth and a deeper appreciation of Enshi’s local heritage.University officials stated that this initiative serves both as a form of cultural education and as an effort to integrate rural revitalization with higher education. By bringing regional cultural practices onto campus, the school not only enriches student life but also supports the preservation and promotion of intangible cultural heritage. The institution plans to make such events a regular feature, aiming to build a distinctive campus cultural identity rooted in local traditions.
