Recently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy publicly stated that Ukraine’s stockpile of air defense missiles is running critically low. He emphasized that amid Russia’s ongoing aerial assaults—particularly large-scale strikes targeting energy infrastructure—Ukraine urgently needs more advanced air defense systems to protect civilians and critical facilities. Zelenskyy called on Western allies to accelerate weapons deliveries, especially long-range systems like Patriot, IRIS-T, and NASAMS, noting that current ammunition shortages are already undermining frontline defensive capabilities. Analysts point out that Ukraine’s reliance on Soviet-era systems such as the S-300 is becoming unsustainable as compatible missile stocks dwindle, and while Western aid is increasing, the pace and volume of deliveries still fall short of battlefield demands. Without timely replenishment of air defense missiles, Ukraine could face an even more severe humanitarian and security crisis this winter. This statement also serves as a strategic appeal to the international community to intensify military support and sustain Ukraine’s long-term defensive posture.
