In the first ten months of 2023, Shanxi Province achieved a record-high output of unconventional natural gas, with cumulative production exceeding 12 billion cubic meters—an increase of approximately 15% year-on-year. This milestone reflects the province’s ongoing efforts as a national pilot for comprehensive energy revolution reforms, accelerating exploration and development of unconventional resources such as coalbed methane and shale gas. As China’s leading coalbed methane producer, Shanxi holds about one-third of the nation’s total reserves.
