Recently, Baotou City in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region officially launched the construction of a national-level zero-carbon industrial park, marking a significant step toward green and low-carbon transformation and achieving China’s dual carbon goals (carbon peak by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060). Located in the Baotou Rare Earth High-Tech Zone, the park leverages the region’s abundant wind and solar resources and strong industrial foundation to focus on green sectors such as renewable energy, new materials, and high-end equipment manufacturing. The park aims to achieve net-zero operational emissions by 2030 through measures including building a renewable-energy-based power system, promoting green buildings, implementing carbon capture and storage technologies, and establishing carbon monitoring and trading mechanisms. Supported by key national agencies like the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Baotou Zero-Carbon Park is expected to serve as a replicable model for low-carbon development in northwestern China and enhance China’s role in global climate governance. Additionally, the park will attract domestic and international green-tech companies, fostering a green industrial chain and innovation ecosystem to drive high-quality regional economic growth.
