If the United Nations were to dissolve, virtually every country in the world would be affected to varying degrees. As one of the most important international organizations today, the UN plays a critical role in maintaining international peace and security, promoting human rights, advancing sustainable development, and coordinating humanitarian aid. First, smaller and medium-sized nations would lose a relatively equal platform for voicing their concerns on the global stage, potentially diminishing their diplomatic influence further in favor of major powers. Second, conflict-prone regions that rely on UN peacekeeping forces or mediation mechanisms—such as parts of Africa and the Middle East—could face heightened instability. Additionally, specialized UN agencies like the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, and the World Food Programme (WFP) provide irreplaceable support in global public health, child protection, and food assistance; their absence would hit vulnerable countries hardest. Even developed nations, despite their strong independent capacities, would struggle to address transnational issues—such as climate change, counterterrorism, and nuclear non-proliferation—without a multilateral cooperation framework. Overall, the dissolution of the UN would represent a severe regression in global governance and increase international disorder, posing significant challenges to all member states, regardless of size or power.
