In 2024, the China Astronaut Research and Training Center announced the official retirement of the second-generation Feitian Extravehicular Mobility Unit Type B—affectionately known as the ‘Feitian Space Suit’ or ‘Sky Warrior Suit.’ Since its debut in 2016, this spacesuit has successfully supported multiple extravehicular activities (EVAs) during China’s space station missions, playing a vital role in the construction and maintenance of the Tiangong space station.The Feitian Type B is China’s indigenously developed second-generation EVA suit, weighing approximately 130 kilograms. It features an enhanced life support system, more flexible joint mechanisms, and higher safety redundancy. Capable of supporting up to eight hours of continuous operation, it effectively protects astronauts from the harsh conditions of space—including vacuum, intense radiation, and extreme temperature fluctuations.From the Shenzhou-12 to Shenzhou-15 missions, the Type B suit completed over ten EVAs, accumulating more than 100 operational hours with consistent reliability. With the successful development and deployment of a next-generation EVA suit, the Type B has now fulfilled its historic mission and been formally retired.Its retirement not only signifies a technological upgrade in China’s EVA capabilities but also reflects the nation’s remarkable progress in human spaceflight—from catching up to keeping pace, and now leading in certain areas. Future, lighter, smarter, and more efficient spacesuits will empower Chinese astronauts to explore deeper into space.
2024年，中国航天员科研训练中心宣布，第二代“飞天”舱外航天服B型（简称“飞天战衣”B）正式光荣退役。这款航天服自2016年首次投入使用以来，已成功支持了多次空间站出舱活动，为中国空间站建设与维护作出了重要贡献。“飞天战衣”B型是我国自主研发的第二代舱外航天服，重约130公斤，具备更强的生命保障系统、更灵活的关节设计以及更高的安全冗余度。其最大工作时间可达8小时，能有效应对太空极端环境，保障航天员在真空、强辐射和温差巨大的条件下安全作业。在神舟十二号至神舟十五号任务期间，“飞天战衣”B型共完成十余次出舱任务，累计使用时间超过100小时，性能稳定可靠。随着新一代舱外服的研制成功并投入应用，B型航天服圆满完成历史使命，正式退出现役。它的退役不仅标志着中国舱外航天服技术的迭代升级，也体现了我国载人航天工程从“跟跑”到“并跑”乃至“领跑”的跨越式发展。未来，更轻便、智能、高效的新型舱外服将助力中国航天员探索更远的深空。
