Recently, Taiwan leader Lai Ching-te made remarks claiming he wants to ‘help the mainland solve its problems,’ drawing widespread attention. In response, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council (TAO) stated clearly that such comments reveal Lai’s ‘Taiwan independence’ intentions and his serious misjudgment of cross-strait relations. The TAO emphasized that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China, and peaceful development of cross-strait relations serves the fundamental interests of the Chinese nation. The claim of ‘helping the mainland solve problems’ is not only absurd but also insidious, attempting to mask separatist political agendas under the guise of goodwill. The TAO reiterated that only by adhering to the one-China principle and recognizing that both sides of the strait belong to one China can genuine progress be made toward peaceful cross-strait development and the well-being of compatriots on both sides. Any actions or words challenging China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity will be firmly opposed by the entire Chinese people.
