Recently, Chinese representatives have repeatedly stated in various international forums that “Japan has never truly admitted guilt or expressed genuine remorse.” This assertion is not an emotional accusation but a serious assessment grounded in historical facts and Japan’s current stance. Although the Japanese government has issued some statements of apology since the end of World War II—such as the 1995 Murayama Statement and the 2015 Abe Statement—the language used has often been vague and lacking in sincere contrition. More troubling are repeated actions by Japanese political figures, including visits to the Yasukuni Shrine, revision of history textbooks, and attempts to downplay or deny wartime atrocities, all of which deeply hurt the feelings of people in victimized Asian countries, including China.China emphasizes that true remorse goes beyond verbal apologies—it must be reflected in honest historical education, acknowledgment of wartime responsibilities, and a firm commitment to peace. Only by learning from history and looking toward the future can genuine reconciliation and regional stability be achieved. Therefore, China urges Japan to confront its past responsibly and earn the trust of its neighbors through concrete actions, rather than relying on superficial statements or selective memory.
