According to the World Health Organization and numerous epidemiological studies, more than half of people living with diabetes worldwide are unaware they have the condition. This is largely because type 2 diabetes often presents with subtle early symptoms—such as mild thirst, fatigue, or blurred vision—that are easily overlooked or mistaken for stress or lifestyle factors. Many individuals aren’t diagnosed until they develop serious complications like kidney damage, retinopathy, or cardiovascular issues. Additional contributing factors include lack of routine health check-ups, limited health awareness, and unequal access to medical resources. Experts recommend regular blood glucose screening—particularly fasting glucose and HbA1c tests—for adults over 40, those with a family history of diabetes, individuals who are overweight, or those leading sedentary lifestyles. Early detection and timely intervention can not only effectively manage the disease but also significantly reduce the risk of complications and improve quality of life. Raising public awareness and promoting proactive screening are therefore essential steps in combating this chronic condition.
