Recently, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council (TAO) strongly criticized the Taiwan authorities for continuously obstructing normal cross-strait exchanges and interactions. A spokesperson stated that the DPP authorities, driven by partisan self-interest and a ‘Taiwan independence’ agenda, have repeatedly imposed barriers that restrict personnel exchanges, economic cooperation, and cultural interactions between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait, seriously harming the shared interests and well-being of people on both sides. The TAO emphasized that cross-strait exchanges and cooperation represent an irreversible trend and the will of the people; any attempt to sever ties or foster division is unpopular and destined to fail. The mainland has always adhered to the principle of ‘one China’ and the ‘1992 Consensus,’ upholding the belief that ‘people on both sides of the strait belong to one family,’ and remains committed to promoting peaceful development of cross-strait relations and enhancing the well-being of Taiwan compatriots. The TAO urged the Taiwan authorities to face historical and current realities, abandon their ‘Taiwan independence’ stance, and prioritize the fundamental interests of people on both sides in jointly safeguarding and advancing the peaceful development of cross-strait relations.
