Recently, Sayram Lake in Xinjiang once again displayed the spectacular natural phenomenon known as ‘ice push,’ drawing numerous tourists and photography enthusiasts to witness the sight. ‘Ice push’ occurs in spring when rising temperatures cause the ice along the lake’s edges to crack due to thermal expansion or wind forces, then get pushed ashore, forming layered, translucent walls or mounds of ice. This rare event typically happens in high-altitude lakes with significant day-night temperature differences and strong winds. Thanks to its unique geography and climate, Sayram Lake is one of the few places in China where this phenomenon reliably occurs.Located in the western Tianshan Mountains at an altitude of approximately 2,073 meters, Sayram Lake is Xinjiang’s highest and largest alpine cold-water lake. Each March to April, as temperatures gradually rise, the lake begins to thaw. Driven by wind and fluctuating water levels, the ice sheets continuously shift and pile up along the shoreline, often accompanied by loud cracking sounds—an awe-inspiring and mysterious spectacle. Beyond its visual appeal, ice push also serves as a valuable natural indicator for studying climate change and lake ecosystems.Experts caution visitors to admire the phenomenon from a safe distance and avoid walking on partially thawed ice to prevent accidents. They also urge travelers to practice responsible tourism and help preserve this pristine lake, poetically dubbed ‘the last tear of the Atlantic Ocean.’
近日，新疆赛里木湖再现壮观的“冰推奇景”，吸引众多游客和摄影爱好者前往打卡。所谓“冰推”，是指在春季气温回升时，湖面边缘的冰层因热胀冷缩或风力作用发生断裂，并被推挤至岸边，形成层层叠叠、晶莹剔透的冰墙或冰堆。这种自然现象多发生在昼夜温差大、风力较强的高海拔湖泊，赛里木湖因其独特的地理位置和气候条件，成为我国少有的能稳定出现冰推景观的湖泊之一。赛里木湖位于天山山脉西段，海拔约2073米，是新疆海拔最高、面积最大的高山冷水湖。每年3月至4月，随着气温逐渐升高，湖面开始解冻，湖冰在风力与水位变化的共同作用下，不断向岸边移动、堆积，发出“咔嚓咔嚓”的声响，场面震撼而神秘。冰推不仅具有极高的观赏价值，也是研究气候变化与湖泊生态的重要自然指标。专家提醒，虽然冰推奇景令人惊叹，但游客应保持安全距离，切勿在未完全解冻的冰面上行走，以免发生危险。同时，也呼吁大家文明观景，保护这片被誉为“大西洋最后一滴眼泪”的纯净湖泊。
