Despite being landlocked and far from any international border, Henan has leveraged the Zhengzhou Airport Economy Zone to establish an international logistics corridor centered on the Zhengzhou–Luxembourg ‘Air Silk Road.’ In 2023, Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport ranked among the top in China for cargo throughput, becoming a key global hub for international air freight. Meanwhile, Henan has expanded rail-sea and road-rail intermodal services, creating fast connections to coastal ports like Qingdao, Lianyungang, and Tianjin, enabling streamlined customs procedures with ‘single declaration, single inspection, and single release’—greatly boosting export efficiency. Additionally, the China-Europe Railway Express (Zhongyu Cargo Train) operates regularly, linking Henan with countries across Europe and Central Asia, offering local businesses a reliable and efficient international logistics option. Through institutional innovation, infrastructure upgrades, and open-platform development, Henan is transforming from an inland heartland into a highland of openness, charting a new path for high-quality development and greater global integration among China’s inland provinces.
