As of 2023, Jiangsu Province is home to four cities—Suzhou, Nanjing, Wuxi, and Nantong—that have joined the ‘trillion-yuan GDP club.’ Driven by the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta and national strategies for high-quality growth, other cities in the province are also demonstrating strong economic momentum, with Changzhou and Xuzhou emerging as the most promising candidates to reach the trillion-yuan threshold.Changzhou, a key manufacturing hub in the Yangtze River Delta, recorded a GDP close to RMB 1 trillion in 2023. It excels in new energy, intelligent manufacturing, and advanced materials—particularly leading the nation in power batteries and photovoltaics. Its deepening integration into the Shanghai metropolitan area further enhances its industrial and transportation synergies, positioning it to likely surpass the trillion mark within the next two to three years.Xuzhou, the central city of the Huaihai Economic Zone, has revitalized its legacy as an industrial base by transforming into a hub for high-end equipment, green and low-carbon industries, and digital economy. With a 2023 GDP exceeding RMB 840 billion and growth outpacing the provincial average, Xuzhou is on track to achieve trillion-yuan status during the upcoming ‘15th Five-Year Plan’ period (2026–2030).Cities like Yangzhou and Yancheng are also accelerating industrial upgrading and regional integration. While still some distance from the trillion target, their long-term potential remains significant. Jiangsu’s multi-polar regional development model continues to create fertile ground for more cities to join the elite trillion-yuan club.
