Since the start of Lidong (the traditional Chinese solar term marking the beginning of winter), China has experienced its most extensive rain and snow event of the season. The National Meteorological Center has issued alerts, noting that a powerful cold front interacting with moist warm air will bring widespread precipitation—from snow and freezing rain to regular rainfall—across regions spanning from the northwest through northeastern, northern, Huang-Huai, and into southwestern China. Snow accumulation in some areas may exceed 10 centimeters, accompanied by significant temperature drops. This weather system is notable for its broad coverage, prolonged duration, and complex precipitation types, posing challenges to transportation, agriculture, and daily life. Authorities advise the public to stay warm, adjust travel plans accordingly, and remain vigilant about hazards such as icy roads and reduced visibility. Agricultural departments recommend reinforcing protective measures for greenhouse crops to prevent frost damage. Despite the disruptions, this precipitation will help alleviate drought conditions in parts of northern China and improve soil moisture, benefiting spring planting preparations.
