Moreover, many encrypted apps lack robust age verification, making it easier for predators to exploit minors through deceptive interactions.Equally concerning is that minors often lack the maturity to assess online risks accurately. They may mistakenly equate ‘encryption’ with ‘safety,’ leading them to overshare personal or sensitive information. Parents and schools must enhance digital literacy education, guide responsible tech use, and stay attentive to children’s online behavior—using parental controls when appropriate. Platforms, too, should strengthen child protection measures, including age verification, content moderation, and accessible reporting tools, to foster a safer digital environment for young users.
