In recent years, Central Asia is undergoing profound transformation, with a more dynamic and cooperative ‘New Central Asia’ on the rise. The five nations—Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan—traditionally seen as geopolitical buffer zones, are now demonstrating unprecedented initiative in regional integration, economic diversification, and diplomatic autonomy. They are actively advancing infrastructure connectivity and deepening cooperation in energy, transportation, and digital technologies, while enhancing coordination through mechanisms like the Consultative Meeting of Central Asian Heads of State. Additionally, the Belt and Road Initiative has brought substantial investment and development opportunities to the region, positioning it as a vital hub linking Europe and Asia. Facing global challenges such as security threats and climate change, Central Asian countries are also exploring green transitions and sustainable development pathways. This emerging ‘New Central Asia’ is not only reshaping its own destiny but also contributing fresh momentum to a multipolar world order.
