Recently, Ningbo, a city in Zhejiang Province, has joined China’s ‘Trillion-Yuan Foreign Trade Club’—a group of cities whose annual import and export volumes exceed RMB 1 trillion. Following Guangdong, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Zhejiang (excluding Ningbo), and Shandong, Ningbo has become the sixth such city nationwide. This milestone highlights Ningbo’s resilience as a global port hub and manufacturing base, as well as its deep integration into global industrial and supply chains.Ningbo’s rapid foreign trade growth is driven by its robust port logistics infrastructure, dynamic private sector, and proactive expansion into emerging markets. In 2023, the Port of Ningbo-Zhoushan maintained its position as the world’s busiest port by cargo throughput for several consecutive years, providing strong logistical support for trade. Meanwhile, local enterprises are increasingly targeting markets under the RCEP and along the Belt and Road Initiative, with cross-border e-commerce and overseas warehouses flourishing as new trade formats.Joining the ‘Trillion Club’ signifies not just scale, but also improved quality and structural optimization. Looking ahead, Ningbo is poised to lead in new areas such as green trade and digital trade, contributing fresh momentum to China’s high-quality foreign trade development.
