With the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence and automation technologies, industrial robots are evolving from simple execution units into intelligent agents capable of decision-making. However, for robots to truly serve as ‘shop floor supervisors’—taking on comprehensive management responsibilities such as production scheduling, quality control, equipment maintenance, and even human coordination—significant challenges remain. While today’s industrial robots excel at repetitive tasks, they still fall short in complex environmental perception, multi-objective optimization, handling unexpected anomalies, and seamless human-robot collaboration. Moreover, fragmented data systems, lack of standardized protocols, and stringent reliability requirements in manufacturing further hinder their transition into higher-level managerial roles. That said, leading companies are already piloting ‘virtual shop floor supervisor’ systems powered by digital twins, edge computing, 5G connectivity, and large AI models to assist or even lead production decisions. Over the next 5 to 10 years, industrial robots are likely to gradually assume certain supervisory functions. Yet, fully replacing human supervisors will require breakthroughs in safety, adaptability, and ethical frameworks. Thus, while the idea of a robot as a shop floor supervisor is no longer science fiction, the path forward remains long and complex.
随着人工智能与自动化技术的飞速发展,工业机器人正从单纯的执行单元向具备决策能力的‘智能体’演进。然而,要让工业机器人真正担任‘车间主任’——即承担生产调度、质量控制、设备维护乃至人员协调等综合管理职责——仍面临诸多挑战。当前的工业机器人虽能高效完成重复性任务,但在复杂环境感知、多目标优化、突发异常处理以及人机协作沟通等方面仍显不足。此外,现有制造系统的信息孤岛问题、数据标准不统一、以及对高可靠性的严苛要求,也限制了机器人向更高层级管理角色的跃迁。尽管如此,借助数字孪生、边缘计算、5G通信和大模型等新兴技术,部分领先企业已开始试点‘虚拟车间主任’系统,通过AI算法辅助甚至主导生产决策。可以预见,在未来5到10年内,工业机器人或将逐步承担起部分车间管理职能,但完全取代人类车间主任仍需在安全性、灵活性和伦理规范等方面取得突破。因此,工业机器人当‘车间主任’并非遥不可及,但道路依然漫长。
