In recent years, Guizhou’s vegetable industry has developed rapidly and entered the nation’s top tier. Leveraging its unique highland mountain climate, pristine ecological environment, and abundant land resources, Guizhou has vigorously promoted green, high-quality, and efficient vegetable cultivation. By establishing high-standard vegetable bases, adopting modern facility agriculture, improving cold-chain logistics systems, and building the regional public brand ‘Qiancai’ (Guizhou Vegetables), the province has not only steadily increased output but also earned widespread market recognition for quality. In 2023, Guizhou’s vegetable planting area exceeded 20 million mu (about 3.3 million acres), with production surpassing 30 million metric tons. The proportion of vegetables sold outside the province continues to rise, reaching markets in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the Yangtze River Delta, and even Southeast Asia. Moreover, Guizhou has integrated its ‘vegetable basket’ initiative with rural revitalization, lifting hundreds of thousands of households out of poverty and boosting incomes. Today, Guizhou stands as a key summer-autumn vegetable supply base in southern China, with its strategic advantage of off-season, staggered, and regionally differentiated production effectively filling seasonal gaps in the national vegetable market and making significant contributions to national food security.
