The so-called ‘abolishing the system’ refers to Shengsi County’s efforts to explore more flexible and diverse assessment methods during compulsory education, reducing reliance on exam scores as the sole criterion for student evaluation, and promoting holistic development and quality-oriented education. However, the Zhongkao—as a nationally standardized examination assessing academic achievement at the end of junior high school—retains its fundamental role and importance.The Shengsi County Education Bureau emphasized that the Zhongkao remains a crucial basis for senior high school admissions. Therefore, ‘abolishing the system’ only means reducing excessive dependence on test scores in daily teaching and internal school assessments—it does not eliminate the Zhongkao itself. The goal is to alleviate students’ academic burden and encourage schools to focus on students’ comprehensive competencies, practical skills, and individual growth.The education authorities urge parents and the public to interpret policy changes rationally and avoid misinformation. Going forward, Shengsi County will continue advancing education assessment reforms under national guidelines to build a more scientific, equitable, and diversified educational ecosystem.
