They noted that while Hainan—the only tropical island province in China—boasts unique natural advantages for coconut cultivation, its coconut industry still faces challenges such as low processing capabilities, limited product value-added, and weak brand recognition. To address these issues, they recommended increased government support for R&D in advanced coconut processing technologies and encouraged enterprises to develop high-value products like coconut water, coconut milk, coconut oil, and bio-based materials. Additionally, they proposed integrating coconuts with cultural tourism to create a distinctive Hainan coconut-themed cultural IP, thereby enhancing overall competitiveness. The members also suggested establishing standardized cultivation practices and a quality traceability system to ensure raw material quality and support the industry’s international expansion. With strategic policy guidance, technological empowerment, and market diversification, Hainan has the potential to position coconuts as a new pillar industry alongside tourism and tropical agriculture.
