车企日系三强为何分化加剧

In recent years, Japan’s ‘Big Three’ automakers—Toyota, Honda, and Nissan—have shown increasingly divergent performance in both the Chinese and global markets. Toyota has maintained its sales leadership thanks to mature hybrid technology, robust supply chain management, and proactive electrification strategies. Honda, while still competitive in internal combustion engine vehicles, has been relatively cautious in its EV transition, leading to delayed market responses. Nissan, meanwhile, has seen its market share steadily decline due to slow product updates, insufficient investment in electrification, and management instability.The root cause of this divergence lies in their differing responses to industry transformation. Toyota launched the Prius as early as 1997, establishing deep expertise in hybrid systems, and has recently accelerated its bZ-series pure electric vehicles while pursuing a multi-path energy strategy—including hybrids, battery EVs, and hydrogen—enhancing its resilience. In contrast, Honda and Nissan’s hesitation on electrification caused them to miss critical windows of opportunity. Moreover, the rapid rise of Chinese domestic EV brands has intensified pressure on Japanese automakers lagging in technological iteration.Looking ahead, unless Honda and Nissan accelerate their transitions toward electrification and intelligent mobility, strengthen localized R&D, and enhance product competitiveness, their gap with Toyota is likely to widen further. The growing divergence among Japan’s top three automakers reflects the broader strategic choices traditional carmakers face in the era of electric and intelligent vehicles.
