Recently, Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) officially announced the establishment of the Institute for Brain-Computer Interface (BCI), marking a significant step in the university’s commitment to advancing brain science and brain-inspired intelligence. The institute will focus on core BCI technologies, including neural signal decoding, high-precision EEG acquisition, intelligent algorithm development, and clinical translation. Leveraging HUST’s interdisciplinary strengths in artificial intelligence, biomedical engineering, electronics, and clinical medicine, the institute aims to build a world-class research platform that bridges fundamental research with industrial applications. In the future, it plans to collaborate with leading international research institutions and hospitals to conduct multi-center clinical trials, accelerating the deployment of BCI technologies in areas such as paralysis rehabilitation, neurological disorder diagnosis and treatment, and human-machine collaboration. This initiative not only enhances China’s global competitiveness in cutting-edge brain science but also provides crucial technological support for national strategies like ‘Healthy China’ and ‘Intelligent China.’
