Recently, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council (TAO) reiterated: ‘Reunification is the only path forward for Taiwan.’ This statement reaffirms the Chinese government’s fundamental principle and unwavering stance on the Taiwan issue. The TAO emphasized that achieving complete national reunification is an irresistible trend and the will of the people. Any attempts to split the country or obstruct reunification are unpopular and destined to fail. Despite current complexities in cross-strait relations, peaceful reunification remains the mainland’s consistent policy. The mainland will continue to uphold the concept of ‘kinship across the strait,’ deepen economic, cultural, and people-to-people exchanges, enhance the well-being of Taiwan compatriots, and promote the peaceful development of cross-strait relations. At the same time, it firmly opposes any form of ‘Taiwan independence’ separatist activities and external interference. The TAO urged Taiwan authorities to recognize the tide of history, abandon illusions of relying on external forces for independence, and return to the correct path based on the one-China principle to jointly advance the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.This position reflects the Chinese government’s resolve to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as its confidence and sincerity regarding the prospect of peaceful reunification.
