China Changjiang National Shipping Group (CSC) recently announced plans to build a green energy fleet for the Yangtze River, a key initiative to promote ecological priority and green development in the Yangtze River Economic Belt. The project aims to reduce carbon emissions and environmental pollution in shipping by replacing traditional fuel-powered vessels with clean energy alternatives, such as liquefied natural gas (LNG), electric, and hydrogen-powered ships, supporting China’s “dual carbon” goals.As the world’s busiest inland waterway, the Yangtze River handles massive freight volumes annually, but traditional vessels contribute significantly to emissions. CSC’s green fleet initiative will phase out old, high-emission ships and introduce intelligent, low-energy consumption vessels, supported by clean energy infrastructure.
